Irene Themistocles Ruyakingira is a dancer and choreographer based in Tanzania. Irene’s practice is influenced by street dance, and she works with gender transformative approaches expressed through a multitude of mediums: poetry, music, as well as traditional and contemporary African body movements. Throughout her work, she is dedicated to advocating for women’s fight against social injustices, political suppression, and economic annihilation. Irene was part of the Muda Africa Dance School, and she has collaborated with choreographers and trainers from all over the world.
