Profile

Christine Tohmé is a curator based in Lebanon. She is the founding director of Ashkal Alwan, the Lebanese Association for the Plastic Arts. It is a non-profit organisation that initiates and supports the production of contemporary artistic practice and provides a grounding for critical reflection and theory with the aim of promoting free thought and critical discourse in Lebanon.Christine has curated Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj in 2017, which included a program spanning exhibitions, educational initiatives, and international collaborations. Recognized for her impact, Christine has the CCS Bard Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, and the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture. Her commitment to education and cultural exchange is also evident in her involvement with institutions like Marsa, a sexual health center in Beirut, and SAHA, an Istanbul-based association supporting Turkish contemporary art.
