Profile

Sobukwe Mapefane is a Lesotho-born and based fine art photographer, creative director, sculptor and filmmaker. As a self-taught artist, his artistic practice is experimental and unbound by discipline. He exhibited at the Morija Museum & Archives, Lesotho for a group exhibition. He explores concepts of spirituality with a focus on African spiritual systems, racial politics, gender inequality, sacred knowledge, initiation rituals and African history. Incorporating pedagogy in his artistic practice, he focuses on art education, critical literacy and community development to reshape false perceptions that surround these subjects by finding creative ways of reinterpreting them.
