Profile

Sirajul Islam is a Rohingya poet, writer, and human rights activist based in Bangladesh. Originally from Myanmar, he was compelled to flee in 2017 and to seek shelter in neighbouring Bangladesh following the apocalyptic crackdown by the Myanmar military. He is now based in a makeshift camp in Cox's Bazar, and his life is shaped by apartheid and by the struggle for peace.

Islam writes as a poet and witness to the lived experiences of his community and its struggles for human rights. He has published two collections of poetry internationally and has contributed to several international anthologies and journals. His writing is a form of activism that advocates for human rights, amplifies the voice of his marginalised community, and sheds a global spotlight on their plight.
