Profile
Hassan Kurbanbaev is an independent photographer based in Uzbekistan. In his practice, Hassan explores the cultural identity of those living in an abstract system of state ideology, seeking to express his own voice in the context of Central Asian contemporary art while also acquainting an international audience with his country. Keeping in mind the state slogan "Uzbekistan is a country with a great past and a great future", Hassan instead wants to reflect on what is in the middle. For his series “Untitled (Portrait of Uzbekistan)”, he traveled around Uzbekistan for three years and shot landscapes and portraits of local communities. And in 2020, his first solo exhibition, “Homework”, was held at 139 Documentary Center in Tashkent.
