Profile

Dimas Budiman is an artist based in Indonesia whose process begins with the creation of a memory and traces that process until the memory is inevitably lost, an approach inspired by a personal medical condition that causes him to forget easily. Involving the process of memory formation and cross-disciplinary knowledge, Dimas has found that personal experience is never purely his own: it is continuous, and shaped by the collective memory present in his surroundings, where what is remembered or forgotten is determined by one another.

His subject is personal memory retention, the investigation of gaps within collective memory, and the expression of relations produced by the distance between the two. He works with writing, drawing, and constantly evolving forms as his mediums.
