Profile
Ceytengri is a performance artist, poet, and activist based in Türkiye. In their work, Ceytengri reflects on topics such as the unambiguous line between violence and self-defense or inhibition of desire, and the isolation of joy and objectification under capitalism. Their performance persona flows between an evil witch, a femme fatale, Kassandra the Trojan prophet, and a freedom fighter.
Ceytengri is the co-founder of Kokoş, an initiative that works with trans people to curate events, shows, and parties where queer existence and enjoyment are prioritized. Ceytengri also works on creating music, releasing their debut track in 2019—a genderfluid submissive club anthem titled “Buz Gibiyim”—which they performed at Red Bull Music Festival. They released their second single, “Madilik”, in 2020 and were also commissioned by Through the Window project—a Prince Claus Fund Exchanges Programme Partner— for which they wrote and shot “tengrisms ii”. Ceytengri has performed at Rebetiko Festival, and they also co-curated the “Trans Day of Remembrance” exhibition in Berlin.
