Profile

Subthiga Mathanamohan is a visual artist and cultural practitioner based in India. She was born in Sri Lanka and raised in India as a refugee, and her lived experience of displacement informs her artistic practice. She works with photography, performance, video, and archival materials to explore refugeeness and repatriation among Sri Lankan Tamil communities.

Subthiga holds an MPhil and an MA in Journalism and Communication from the University of Madras. She is the founder of Palk Strait Archives, an initiative dedicated to archiving and documenting narratives between India and Sri Lanka. Her work has been exhibited at the Chennai Photo Biennale, the Alliance Française of Madras, the Shared Tides Residency Showcase in Chennai and Jaffna, and the Jaffna Photography Festival 2024.
