Samagra Shah is a multimedia artist and documentary filmmaker based in Nepal. His work explores how people relate to animals and nature, connecting with lived experiences and untold perspectives. Through his storytelling, he blends personal narratives with broader societal concerns to highlight stories that are often overlooked.
His ongoing multimedia project, Since the Time of the Gods, Our Boats Have Been in These Rivers, examines the expanding scale of hydropower development in Nepal and its utter disregard for the communities and landscape shaped by the river. The project has been exhibited in Kathmandu. His debut short documentary, Wagging Tale, follows Rupak, who walks around the city daily feeding 80 kilograms of chicken bones to street dogs that have become his only family, almost replacing his estranged one. The film has been screened in Canada, the USA, the UK, and India.
