Reetu Sattar is a performance artist and filmmaker based in Bangladesh. Reetu's artistic practice is guided by somatic intelligence while reflecting on eclipsed stories and sonorities, colonial historiography, and the unequal grounds of injustices that address post-coloniality in a country like Bangladesh. She creates directional and intermediate assemblages combining performance, text, installation, photography and filmmaking that revise theatre conventions.
Reetu considers bodies to collapse boundaries between performance, sculpture, architecture and documentation via acts of estrangement, reversal, ritualized behaviour, repetition and fragmentations. Using an academic lens, she questions human perception and hidden realities by re-examining history and knowledge-making. Her practice stays connected to the disruptions connected to coloniality and lost knowledge aligning with phenomenology to explore change, perception, and the body's relationship to matter.
Reetu has presented her work at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Liverpool Biennial, Sharjah Art Biennial 16, Dhaka Art Summit, and Istanbul Biennial, as well as venues including the British Film Institute in London, Alserkal Avenue and Ishara Art Foundation in Dubai, Artspace in Sydney, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and NTU CCA in Singapore. Her performances have been staged internationally at venues in London, Birmingham, Bangkok and Goa.
