Diego Gutierrez Valladares is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and art educator based in Costa Rica, focusing on alternative forms of pedagogy and socially-engaged practices. Diego holds a Ph.D. in Art from the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland, with the thesis “Making milpa: towards forms of collaboration and porosity.” He designs settings and learning environments that explore biomimicry, alternative pedagogy, collaboration, and support systems. His artistic work includes printmaking, installation, workshops, and exhibition design.
Diego has been awarded various art residencies in public and private institutions such as Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistolletto in Italy, Zamek Centrum Kultury in Poland, Gudskul Ekosystem in Indonesia, and he has participated in international venues and exhibitions such as Documenta 15 in Kassel, Center for Contemporary art in Prague, Wroclaw Museum of Contemporary Art, Krakow Bunkier Sztuki and National Taiwan Museum of Art, among others.
