Pyae Phyo Thar is a socio-cultural critic, artist, and academic from Myanmar, based in Thailand. As a multimodal artist and storyteller, he experiments with oral history, documentary, and conceptual ethnography. Across these mediums, his work centres on lived experience and memory, and examines how everyday life is shaped by authoritarian power and political rupture.
His interests lie at the intersection of affect, digital media cultures, and socio-political movements in Myanmar and across Southeast Asia. Pyae Phyo Thar received his Master’s degree in Human Rights and the Arts from Bard College, New York, in 2025. His work has been featured at the Center for Human Rights and the Arts in New York and at ALab at Purdue, among others.
