Profile

Mayro Romero is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Ecuador. Mayro’s work focuses on the innovative use of archives as autoethnographic writing. The body, as a living archive, is central to their practice: they consider it a memory technology that not only records but also transforms, creating a constant dialogue between the tangible and the imagined.

In 2022, Mayro participated in Talents Buenos Aires (ARG) and in the seminar on Technologies of Memory at MUAC-UNAM (MEX). Currently, they are part of the international training program DIP (Documentary, Intimacy, and Staging) as a scholarship holder and work as a non-formal teacher in contemporary art galleries. Graduated in Film from Universidad de las Artes (ECU), they are currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Communication Research with a focus on Visuality and Diversities at Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (ECU).
