Hu Liwei is a multidisciplinary artist based in the People’s Republic of China. Hu works at the intersections between film, installation, performance, and community engagement, observing and manipulating moments of absurdity, silence, and intimacy, and reflecting the collective memories of the diaspora. She is interested in investigating the inexorable development of urban history and the enormous societal changes, relationship with nature, and collective memories caused by technology. She combines observation with a range of methods such as material exploration, diaristic structure, re-enactment, and structuralist strategy to dissolve borders between avant-garde film, documentary, and landscape study.
