Profile
Hu Liwei is a multidisciplinary artist based in China (People’s Republic of). Living in Chongqing, she is surrounded by fog all year round, which gives rise to fantasies of tropical islands, sunshine, beaches, and coconuts. Through the lens of this tropical illusion, Hu's practice explores liminal states—in-between places where continuity is unsettled and themes of separation, transition, and mobility are examined.
Hu has received fellowships and residencies from Art Omi, AIR Taipei, Organhaus, MacDowell, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Asia Culture Center. She will be a resident at the Rijksakademie in 2026–2027.
