Profile

Mayra Villavicencio Príncipe is a film director, researcher, and film programmer based in Peru. Her artistic practice focuses on revisiting and altering images generated in surveillance environments as a critique of the gaze shaped by the current scopophilic regime. Mayra addresses themes of memory and political violence.

Mayra has participated in film and art residencies including LAB Proceso de Error in Valparaíso (2019), DokLab Documentary Residency in Navarra (2023), and Matadero Madrid (2024). She co-directed the short film "After the Dust" (2022), which has been selected for international film festivals such as Punto de Vista, FICValdivia, and L'Alternativa. Mayra holds a Master’s degree in Film Studies and Visual Cultures from ESCAC and the University of Barcelona.
