Lêna Bùi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Vietnam. Lêna's practice moves across cultures to examine the socio-political forces shaping contemporary life. Rooted in ecological inquiry, her work explores humanity’s interdependence with nature—our reliance on it, transformation of it, and the tension between reverence and exploitation. From 2012 to 2018, she collaborated with medical scientists at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam and Nepal, producing research-based works on zoonotic disease, rural livelihoods, and community infrastructures, including pig farming in the Mekong Delta, duck feather workers in Hanoi, and women’s relationships to ancient water spouts in Kathmandu.
Lêna's films and video installations weave global narratives with intimate, everyday moments. Her three-channel video "home (good infinity, bad infinity)" traces stories of displacement in Saigon and Sharjah, reflecting on development and the finite trade of sand. Her recent film "dream(machine, human)" imagines a future shaped by ancestral knowledge and circular systems of survival. Through her work, Lêna considers how individuals might reshape their ways of living so future generations can continue to inhabit a shared and fragile earth.
