Profile
Kyle Malanda is a Malawian visual artist whose interdisciplinary work explores the intersections of queerness and sexual expression, racial and ethnic identity, mental health, and generational trauma in an increasingly globalized digital world. In their practice, they employ techniques ranging from fashion design to augmented reality, glass beadwork and film. With her multi-cultural and transcontinental experiences as a queer Black woman, Kyle’s work is an autobiographical reflection of both society and the self/-ves. Their works seek to interpret Black history into ideals for the present and imaginations for Black futures. Kyle is primarily based in Lilongwe, Malawi, and partially based in Oakland, California.
