Gianine Tabja is a visual artist, researcher, and educator based in Peru. Gianine’s practice examines extractive processes and their impact on territory, memory, and ways of inhabiting the environment. Through situated research, she explores tensions between ecology, displacement, and history, drawing on decolonial and interdisciplinary approaches to propose critical narratives and experiences. Her work spans drawing, sculpture, video, sound, installation, and performance.
Gianine’s work has been presented at the Havana Biennial (2021–22) and in solo exhibitions at ICPNA, MAC-Lima, and Galería Cecilia Gonzalez, among others. She has participated in international residencies and group exhibitions in Peru, the UK, and Mexico. Committed to collaborative practice, she was a member of Colectivo EMERGENTES and co-founded FIBRA, a collective focused on environmental research and biomaterials, recipients of national and international awards. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), a Master of Letters degree with distinction from The Glasgow School of Art, and a diploma in Sound Art from Tsonami Arte Sonoro. She is currently Professor and Director of the Painting Department at PUCP and has extensive experience teaching in diverse educational and community contexts.
