Cheick Oumar Sissoko is a filmmaker and politician based in Mali. Cheick has used his dual passions to explore social issues in his homeland. After studying African history, sociology, and cinema in Paris, Sissoko returned to Mali and established Kora Films, his production company. His films, like "Nyamanton" (1986) and "Finzan" (1989), center on the themes of rural life, social change, and the importance of tradition.Sissoko's work has garnered international recognition, with "Finzan" winning the Jury Prize at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. Beyond filmmaking, Sissoko served as Mali's Minister of Culture from 2002 to 2004, further demonstrating his commitment to social progress and cultural preservation.
