Announcement

Hendrikje Crebolder is appointed as Interim Director of the Prince Claus Fund as of 1 January 2026. Currently, she is serving as a Prince Claus Fund Supervisory Board Member.

Ms. Crebolder is a respected cultural leader and former lawyer who was the first female executive board member of the Rijksmuseum, where she played a key role in expanding its international reach. She is currently serving as a board member in various organisations, such as the International Board of Manifesta, Eye Filmmuseum, the Supervisory Board of Vlisco, and the Board of Trustees of TEFAF.

“I am very excited to join the Prince Claus Fund team as Interim Director, and I look forward to contributing to its success as we are stepping into the 30th anniversary year of the organisation,” said Ms. Crebolder.

Following the new appointment, Marcus Desando’s tenure as Prince Claus Fund Director will conclude on 31 December 2025, after four years of service to the Fund.

In light of significant sector-wide challenges over recent years, the Supervisory Board and Mr. Desando have jointly concluded that the organisation is entering a new phase and that this is the right time to conclude the collaboration.

“I am deeply grateful to the Board, the team, and all our partners and stakeholders for the opportunity to serve the Fund over the past four years. This period has been one of significant growth, and I am proud to have contributed to work that supports the transformative power of culture,” said Marcus Desando.

During his tenure, Mr. Desando’s leadership and work ensured that the Fund continued to operate effectively under challenging circumstances. “We would like to thank Mr. Desando for his service and dedication over the past four years, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours,” said Ila Kasem, Chair of the Supervisory Board.

Firmly rooted in a belief that culture is a basic need, the Prince Claus Fund will continue its programmes and awards, dedicated to serving engaged artists and cultural practitioners in places where culture is under pressure.
