Tin Ayala is an artist and activist based in Bolivia. Drawing from Andinx and Cholx identities, Tin examines Andean postcolonial responses through the concept of “Cholo”, a term of Indigenous origin historically used during the colonial period to categorise descendants of Indigenous and Spanish ancestry. They explore this as a border identity capable of signifying colonial notions of race. Their work is often described as an abigarrado scenographic collage, combining pre-colonial imagery, globalised representations, Indigenous symbols, and pop culture characters.
Tin’s practice is deeply rooted in collective work, particularly through their involvement with El Alto Aesthetics, a multidisciplinary collective that provides a platform for visual, social, and economic aesthetics developed in the Andean region. Over the past three years, this collective has served as a vital space for cultural dialogue and action in El Alto. Tin studied at the Geo-Design Department of the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
