Renée Akitelek Mboya is a writer, curator, and filmmaker based in Kenya. Renée's practice draws on biography and storytelling as methods of research and cultural production. Working across text, film, and curatorial projects, she is interested in how personal and collective narratives can reveal the structures that shape visual culture.
Her current work focuses on the politics of images—how they are produced, circulated, and interpreted—and particularly on the ways images have functioned as evidence of white paranoia and as aesthetic languages through which racial violence is constructed and sustained. Through close attention to visual archives and storytelling, her practice interrogates how images participate in systems of power while also shaping memory and historical understanding.
