Immy Mali is an artist based in Uganda. Immy works across text, drawing, video, sound, sculpture, and animation to explore memory, presence, and absence through personal and collective experience. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Makerere University and is an alumna of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She is the founder of Iraa – The Granary, an experimental artist’s kitchen and living archive that examines alternative, locally grounded archival practices within Ugandan and East African contexts.
Since 2021, Iraa – The Granary has developed through community kitchens, shared meals, and research-based gatherings that use food as a tool for dialogue, care, and collective knowledge-making. Immy's socially engaged practice investigates how food fosters trust, reflection, and exchange, creating spaces to question how archives are formed and whose histories are preserved, while connecting artistic practice to ecological and social interdependence.
