Profile
Hemansingh Lutchmun is an artist based in Mauritius. His practice spans film, sculpture, and installation. Interweaving raw materials such as clay, soil, and sand with time-based techniques, his work navigates the intersections of labour, extraction, and displacement.
Lutchmun's practice weaves together personal experiences and broader cultural symbols to examine memory, transformation, and enticement. Expanding on these themes, he explores how global processes shape personal feelings of identity and belonging. At the heart of his practice is a contemplation of the fluid boundaries between the personal, the spiritual, and the communal, and how those are transformed through labour into tangible symbols and persisting narratives. He works between Frankfurt Main and Goodlands.
