Jo Tanierla is a visual artist based in the Philippines. His work is grounded in historical research examined through the lens of the people's resistance against colonialism. Tanierla frames his drawings and texts in historical fiction, deploying magic realism and social realism to scrutinize colonial narratives, to forward the politics of class struggle, and to assert a future free from systemic exploitation and oppression.
Tanierla holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines - Diliman. In 2021 he won the Ateneo Art Awards for his first solo exhibition. His works have since been exhibited internationally, in Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
