Durna Safarova based in Baku, Azerbaijan. Her work moves between film, journalism, writing and research, with storytelling as a common thread. Growing up during the post-Soviet transformation shaped her interest in stories and fragments of history that remain unexplored, forgotten or contested, and in people and societies in flux. She works across non-fiction, fiction and forms in between. She is the founder of etüdfilm, film production studio, and is part of the SevilFest collective in Azerbaijan, where she curates film programmes and develops international collaborations.
Films she produced have screened at festivals such as Annecy, Visions du Réel, Sarajevo Film Festival, FIPADOC, Ji.hlava International Documentary Festival.
Durna holds degrees in film from UCL and Istanbul Bilgi University and in journalism from Baku State University.
