Virginia Pérez-Ratton (1950–2010) was an artist, curator, and cultural manager based in Costa Rica. She dedicated her career to the exploration and promotion of contemporary art practices within Central America and the Caribbean. Her work, celebrated for themes of vulnerability, rupture, and the critique of social structures, has been exhibited across Latin America, Europe, and Asia.In 1999, she founded TEOR/éTica, a pivotal non-profit organization aimed at fostering contemporary art and critical dialogue within her region. This initiative, alongside her directorship at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in San José, positioned her as a key figure in the regional and international art scene. Pérez-Ratton's legacy is marked by her commitment to cultural advocacy, earning her prestigious recognitions like the Magón National Prize for Culture.
