Timtooni is a filmmaker and cultural practitioner based in Ghana. Working from Tamale, he is dedicated to narrative reclamation and to building creative infrastructure in Northern Ghana, depicting Northern stories in authentic, nuanced contexts beyond regional stereotypes. His work spans narrative film, such as the socially engaged "Aisha & Muzamil", and documentaries highlighting local innovation.
After studying at Dartmouth College, he returned home to challenge the stereotypes attached to the region. Beyond the screen, he founded Northflix, an outdoor cinema initiative, and actively mentors emerging talent to foster a sustainable local film ecosystem. Through his interdisciplinary practice, he works to bridge local histories with global audiences while advocating for social justice and gender equality. He is also known as Junaid Timtooni Yakubu.
