Melisa Kayowa is a visual artist based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Melisa's work explores themes of identity, memory, and human interconnectedness. She employs a range of media, including textiles, architecture, video, photography, and installation, to create works that invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences and relationship with the world.
In 2024, Melisa took part in the artistic mentorship residency at BlackRock Senegal. She has also participated in the group exhibition “Kokende liboso eza ko koma te” (Essay on contiguous narratives and poetic cosmologies), alongside artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Mukenge/Schellhammer, and P-Tankwey. In 2022, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, where she currently works as an administrative secretary in the painting department.
