Maria Guțu is a photographer based in Moldova. She is interested in remote places, youth, the notion of the home, and the relationship between humans and the environment. Her long-term project "Homeland" has developed these concerns over several years.
In 2020, Guțu graduated in cinematography at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chisinau, and in 2022 she finished her studies at the Docdocdoc School of Modern Photography in Saint Petersburg. Since 2021, she has been a member of Women Photograph. She was shortlisted at the Sony World Photography Awards in 2022 and 2023, and in 2024 she became the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer winner for Homeland. Her work has been shown in collective exhibitions in countries including Romania, Germany, the UK, and Hungary.
