Profile

Fatim Soumaré is an artist and craftswoman based in the Sine Saloum region of Senegal. Fatim's work is deeply rooted in the traditional West African textile crafts she discovered through her mother, a traditional dyer. Her artistic practice focuses on socio-cultural and traditional methods of transmitting indigenous knowledge, which she explores through woven sculpture, inclusive installations, and performance art.

In 2021, Fatim founded Falé, a collective of 200 craftswomen, and established a workshop-laboratory dedicated to cotton research. This initiative examines the transformation of cotton by humans over time, reflecting on its significance in modern society. Fatim's work highlights the importance of maintaining and evolving traditional crafts within contemporary contexts, contributing significantly to the rural ecosystem in Senegal.
