Ana María Jessie is a filmmaker, visual anthropologist, Raizal historian, and documentary photographer based in Colombia. Her practice works across film, photography, and community research, centring Black and Indigenous women, LGBTQIA+, and trans communities in Colombia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, and exploring memory, collective healing, and resilience.
She holds an MA in Visual Anthropology from the University of Manchester, completed as a Chevening Scholar. Her films have screened internationally: "Fishing Her: Mujeres de Sal" received Best Caribbean Documentary at FAMMA in 2019 and the Contar lo Nuestro Award for Best Documentary in 2020, and "Because I Know How Beautiful My Being Is" premiered internationally in 2023. She is currently in post-production on "The Coral Man", a documentary on traditional fishing.
