Profile
Saleh Kashefi is an Iranian underground audiovisual artist whose works bring a bold lens upon contemporary youth culture exploring topics of emancipations and awakenings from conditionings, the duality of the Islamic youth, queerness in toxic masculine and Islamic countries. Their work questions empathy and compassion, re-examines history and contemporary internet found footage archives by making personal ‘no-budget’ films, which have gone on to be screened with international acclaim.
They have been part of festivals like Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Locarno, Visions du Réel, IDFA and FID. Saleh has made 16 short films, which have been included in over 150 film festivals around the world and have won 37 awards. They are the youngest person ever selected for la Résidence de Cannes, Biennale College Cinema, Berlinale Talents and Locarno Academy.
