Profile

Nawwar Alboukai is a translator and film researcher based in Syria. Nawwar's practice focuses on employing cinema as a means of resistance, particularly in the context of the Syrian conflict. His work highlights the psychological and physical impacts of war, as demonstrated in his debut project, "My Memory is Full of Ghosts", a documentary about Homs City.

Nawwar collaborates with independent Syrian filmmakers, translating their films to amplify their voices on an international stage. His current multidisciplinary research project, "Why Homs?", aims to explore and document why Homs was the most damaged city during the war, intending to create a comprehensive reference for artistic works related to the city. His work contributes significantly to preserving and reflecting the Syrian narrative to a global audience.
