Redza Piyadasa (1939-2007) was an artist and critic based in Malaysia. His practice, encompassing painting, installation, and conceptual art, interrogated the cultural and social landscape of Malaysia, blending traditional motifs with modernist critique. Piyadasa’s work is known for its exploration of post-colonial identity, the interrogation of historical narratives, and the decolonization of art and culture in Southeast Asia. His critiques offered an answer on the neo-nationalist, Islamic and global currents in Malaysia.Notable projects include "The Great Malaysian Landscape" and his critical writings, which have left an impact on the discourse of art in the region. His exhibitions spanned both national and international venues, contributing to the global understanding of Southeast Asian art. In 1983, he and Sabapathy authored Modern Artists of Malaysia, one of the first comprehensive surveys of Modern Malaysian artists.
