Profile

Gatari Surya Kusuma is a researcher and curator based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. After graduating from the Department of Photography at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in 2016, Gatari focused on action research and critical pedagogy through her involvement with the KUNCI Study Forum & Collective.

Her work often explores themes of food sovereignty and cultural practices, showcased through her ethnographic research with the Bakudapan Food Study Group. Gatari has co-curated the curatorial platform Struggles For Sovereignty, emphasizing local resistance and autonomy, and co-initiated Seaweed Etcetera, an artistic research platform. Her projects have been exhibited internationally, reflecting her commitment to addressing social and cultural issues through collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches.
