Profile

Emily Jacir is a multimedia artist based between Palestine and United States. Jacir's work is intricately woven with the socio-political dynamics of the Palestinian diaspora, themes of displacement, and personal and collective history. Her art often bridges the gaps between narrative and memory, employing a variety of media including film, photography, social interventions, installation, and performance.Jacir’s projects are celebrated for their depth and poignancy. Notable works include "Where We Come From" (2003), in which she fulfilled the personal wishes of Palestinians unable to visit their homeland, and "ex libris" (2010-2012), which commemorated the approximately 30,000 books from Palestinian homes, libraries, and institutions that were looted by Israeli authorities in 1948. These works, among others, have been exhibited extensively in international venues such as the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
