Carlinhos Brown is a singer, percussionist, and record producer based in Brazil. He influences the musical landscape with his Afro-Brazilian rhythms blended with reggae and other global music forms. Brown is the driving force behind the axé music movement, which integrates Afro-Brazilian percussion with pop beats, making Salvador de Bahia a vibrant musical hub akin to New Orleans and Havana. His work with Timbalada, a musical group and community project he founded, showcases his commitment to social activism, providing education and resources to disadvantaged youth in Salvador. Brown's international collaborations span genres and include notable artists such as Bill Laswell, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter, underlining his belief in music as a universal language and a means for cross-cultural dialogue.Brown's solo career took off with the release of his album "Alfagamabetizado" in 1996, followed by several other successful albums, including "Omelete Man" and "A Gente Ainda Não Sonhou." He has made significant contributions to film soundtracks, such as "Speed 2: Cruise Control," and has been a recurring judge on "The Voice Brasil."
