Bermet Borubaeva is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, urban environmentalist and labour rights activist born in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Co-founder of the Bishkek School of Contemporary Art (BiSCA), she engages with the politico-economic issues of food production, labour, migration and the urban environment in her multi-faceted practice. After graduation from the School of Contemporary Art “ArtEast” (Kyrgyz Republic), she has curated and been involved in various local and international projects, including the education program for the Bishkek presentation of the exhibition Lingua Franca/ Франк тили, the Central Asian Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale; Recent exhibition projects include the café Still Life (2019) at Kunstraum Dreiviertel, Bern and research residency “Trash into Treasures” in Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago) as a winner of the grant program established by the CEC ArtsLink International Fellowship Program - 2019-2022. Her current project is the eco-art festival “TRASH” in collaboration Tazar Kyrgyzstan and the School of Methodology of Art Research (BiSCA).
