Abdeslam Ziou Ziou is an independent researcher and art consultant based in Morocco. Abdeslam ‘s research focuses on collective art practices and dynamics, pedagogical experiments, and the development of the art world in post-colonial Morocco since the 1960s. Through his archival research on oral and buried written histories, he seeks to address the multiple modalities of writing art history that emerge from a particular territory and context, and cast a critical gaze on concepts of modernity, identity and transnationalism.
Abdeslam has participated in a number of exhibitions and trans-disciplinary art and research programmes, including Untie to Tie–Movement.Bewegung (part of the Houdoud programme), ifa-Galerie Berlin (2019), School of Casablanca research and exhibition project (Think Art, KW , Ifa Gallery). Together with artist Sofiane Byari, he recently took part in the "Toucher l'insensé" exhibition curated by François Piron at the Palais de Tokyo Paris. Abdeslam is the recipient of several grants and fellowships, including the CAORC/Mellon Fellowship in Modern Art History, Centre d’Étude Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT) (2020–2023); the HOUDOUD–Program Joint Project of Artists and Researchers carried by UNESCO; the Fatima Mernissi Chair/University Mohamed V/HEM–ifa Berlin. He is a founding member of the CARCDAM, a creative research cooperative in Casablanca- Morocco.
