Profile
Wirunwan Victoria Pitaktong is a translator from Thailand, currently based in Mexico. Wirunwan works with translation in its varied forms and manifestations, and with the interpretations of texts—written, spoken, and embodied—in search for resonances across territorial waters. She uses translation as a tool to forge trans-local solidarity between socio-political movements in Thailand and beyond. Wirunwan recognizes that there is a multitude of attitudes, backgrounds, traditions, and perceptions, morphing and mutating in ways that exceed definition, and she believes translation is a work that is necessary and urgent.
In 2020, Wirunwan co-founded Namkheun Collective, which frames translation as a form of activism, focusing on the Thai cultural landscape and possible reimagining of socio-cultural boundaries in Thailand. She was also part of Speedy Grandma, a collective and independent space, which serves as a meeting (play)ground for artists, cultural practitioners, and activists.
