Profile

The Arab Human Development Report (AHDR), initiated in 2000 and sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is a platform for Arab scholars to analyze challenges and opportunities in the Arab region, based in the United States. The AHDR endeavors to spark dialogue and consensus on regional and national priorities by offering analyses and policy recommendations across a spectrum of deficits. The first report in 2002 spotlighted three crucial areas: knowledge, women's empowerment, and freedom, setting the stage for subsequent reports to delve deeper into each issue. This foundational work significantly contributed to discourse within the Arab world, promoting a reform agenda that has seen its messages discussed at high levels, including Arab Foreign Ministers and the League of Arab States. The most recent AHDR in 2022 focused on navigating the post-COVID recovery landscape, emphasizing the need for accountable governance, diversified economies, and cohesive societies to foster an inclusive and resilient recovery.
