Henry Chakava (1946-2024) was a publisher based in Kenya. Known as a figure in African publishing, Henry has contributed to the development of the literary landscape in Africa. He made history by becoming the first African to head a major international publishing house in Nairobi, where he worked to promote African writers and literature.His's career was marked by his commitment to nurturing African talent and confronting the challenges of publishing in a post-colonial context. He was publishing some of the most significant African authors, including Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, whose works were often viewed as controversial. Under his leadership, East African Educational Publishers became a critical platform for African voices that might otherwise have gone unheard.
