Profile

Gouled Ahmed is a multidisciplinary artist born in Djibouti and currently based in Ethiopia. They hold a bachelor’s degree in historical studies from Bard College, New York. They have previously exhibited their work at the Daybreak is Near exhibit, Alliance Ethio-Francaise, Ethiopia (2021), and were awarded the African Cultural Fund Visual Arts Grant (2019-2020). As a non-binary artist, Gouled’s work is centered around notions of radical imagination and equitable world-building through mediums of film, photography, costume design, and writing. Their practice seeks to dissect history and re-shape how structures of power created meaning in how the ‘other’ is understood in Africa.
