Dinh Q. Lê (1968-2024) was a multimedia artist based in Vietnam. He was known for his weaving of photographic strips into complex images often addressing the convergence of personal memory and collective history. Born in Vietnam and raised in the U.S., Lê returned to Vietnam to establish his practice, exploring themes such as war, diaspora, and cultural identity through his art. His most notable works include "The Farmers and The Helicopters" and the acclaimed series "Splendor and Darkness," which brought him international recognition.Lê's art has been exhibited in prestigious venues worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His impactful approach creates a dialogue between historical narratives and contemporary experiences, often challenging the viewers' perception of history and memory. Lê co-founded the San Art independent artists' space in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing significantly to the local art scene.
