Profile

Decolonizing Architecture Art Residency (DAAR) is an architectural collective based in Palestine. Established by Alessandro Petti, Sandi Hilal, and Eyal Weizman, the practice integrates architecture, visual arts, and pedagogy to challenge traditional notions of politics and architecture. DAAR explores the spatial and political implications of occupation, migration, and dispossession, predominantly focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian context. Their projects, such as the transformation of abandoned military barracks into dynamic civic spaces, critically address the architecture of Israeli occupation and propose ways to repurpose, subvert, and re-inhabit existing structures.DAAR’s work has been internationally recognized and exhibited in major venues such as the Venice Biennale, the Istanbul Design Biennial, and the Centre Pompidou. The collective aims to effect social change by merging theoretical research with practical interventions, making a significant contribution to discussions on decolonization and architecture. Their educational initiatives, based at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and Beit Sahour, Palestine, further extend their impact.
