Christopher Cozier is a visual artist and writer based in Trinidad and Tobago. Born in 1959 in Port of Spain, where he still lives and works, Cozier has played a pivotal role in advancing Caribbean art on the international stage. His multidisciplinary practice includes drawing, installation, and video, often reflecting on Caribbean history and culture and its contemporary socio-economic issues.Cozier's art is marked by its critical exploration of colonialism, post-colonialism, and globalization. His works such as "Tropical Night" (2007) and his participation in the project "Infinite Islands" at the Brooklyn Museum have been pivotal in framing the Caribbean experience within a global context. He has exhibited widely, including at the Havana Biennial and Tate Liverpool, solidifying his reputation as a key figure in Caribbean contemporary art. Cozier is also a co-director of Alice Yard, a creative hub for contemporary art in Trinidad.
