Exchanges with W139

We are excited to kick off the second artist residency with W139 this year, featuring 2025 Prince Claus Fund Seed Awardee Komtouch Napattaloong. The residency will take place alongside the group exhibition "The Nature of Remembering", running from 1 September until 1 November.

Public event

As part of the Exchanges Programme, W139 will host three residencies within its 2025–2028 framework “Solidarity as a Culture,” approaching solidarity as a practice rooted in reciprocity, respect, and collective responsibility in artistic work. Each residency is linked to a 2026 exhibition and tailored to the participating artist’s context, with W139 supporting their integration into Amsterdam’s cultural landscape through connections to peers, organisations, communities, and relevant opportunities, alongside regular practical and creative guidance.

Artists are hosted on-site with 24/7 access to a studio and basic accommodation, and are invited into the organisation’s daily life while maintaining autonomy; each residency culminates in a public moment with a flexible format, ranging from experimental try-outs to exhibition contributions or external presentations.

Between April and July, 2025 Prince Claus Fund Seed Awardee Martina Manterola and Carmen Serra together with their collective Amasijo were part of the first Exchanges residency at W139 that took place within the exhibition "flour, water, soil.

W139 is a presentation and production space for contemporary art. Since its founding in 1979, when the monumental building was squatted by a collective of artists, W139 has been paving the way for experimentation and new modes of autonomy, self-organisation, and collectivity within the arts. As an artist-driven organisation, W139 serves as a platform for dialogue, encounter, and artistic dissent, facilitating radical imagination and solidarity.
