Jawad al-Assadi is a theater director, playwright, theater researcher, and poet based in Iraq. B al-Assadi is renowned for his contributions to theater, both in the Arab world and internationally. His work, characterized by an approach to directing and an innovative vision of theater, spans across directing plays by Arab playwrights like Saádallah Wanoos and Mahmoud Diab, as well as European giants such as Chekhov and Brecht. Al-Assadi's oeuvre includes significant works like "Forget Hamlet," "The Bench," and "Women of War," which have been translated into English, Russian, and French.Spending 25 years in exile, al-Assadi collaborated with theater groups across the Arab countries, nurturing thought and cultural dialogue. His return to Iraq marked a renewed effort to revitalize cultural activities amidst challenging circumstances. Notably, his work "Baghdadi Bath" reflects his perspectives on American presence in Iraq and has been staged internationally, including in New York City.
