Natasha Gasparian is an art historian and curator specializing in modern and contemporary art in the Arabic-speaking world.

Profile

Natasha Gasparian is a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art History and Theory at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Focusing on revolutionary artistic practices in 1960-70s Lebanon, her doctoral research attempts to both historicize and theorize the notion of an anticolonial avant-garde. In addition to her writing and criticism, which has appeared in Artforum, Cultural Politics, and Texte Zur Kunst, she is the author of Commitment in the Artistic Practice of Aref El-Rayess: The Changing of Horses (Anthem Press, 2020). Along with Ziad Kiblawi, she co-curated the exhibition, “Je suis inculte ! The Salon d’Automne and The National Canon” at the Sursock Museum in 2023, and also served as an assistant curator and publications editor for the 16th Lyon Biennale. Gasparian is an organizing member of the Beirut Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR).
